Córdoba

In the centre of the beautiful city of Córdoba, there is a stunning huge mosque with a catholic cathedral inside, the famous Mezquita. The construction of the mosque started in the 8th century and since the 13th century it has been used as a cathedral by the diocese of Córdoba. Near the Mezquita you will find a charming old Jewish neighbourhood called La Judería with classical buildings and narrow winding streets. The area is dotted with artisanal shops, nice little bars and good restaurants.

Granada

The centre of the city is very nice and beautiful, with lots of parks and of course the famous Alhambra. The Alhambra is one of the most popular touristic sites of Spain and with good reason. It was originally built by the Moors as a fortress with a range of palaces and now houses a Christian cathedral, the famous Generalife gardens, a medieval fort, bath house and a parador hotel.

The downhill old Arab neighbourhood Albaicín with its charming artisanal shops and the gypsy Sacromonte area, with cave houses are certainly worth a visit too. The city centre of Granada is quite compact, so it is ideal to stroll around for a day.

Almuñécar

Almuñécar is a nice, charming little town on the coast, a little over an hour drive from Inglés. In the city centre you can see the old roman village and the Moorish quarters a bit uphill with small winding streets, there are lots of nice shops, bars and restaurants.

Pueblos blancos

The Alpujarras is dotted with so called pueblos blancos, dating back to the Moorish era. From Inglés northern terrace, which is overlooking the whole Alpujarran valley, you can see over 15 of them as white spots on the mountain sides.

Trevélez

The pueblo blanco Trevelez, located at 1476m altitude, is famous for its traditional cured hams. The clean, dry air from the Sierra Nevada makes it Spain's top location for ham-curing.

Poqueira gorge

Poqueira is a beautiful, steep green valley in the western part of the Alpujarras with lush vegetation. Three nice white villages are stuck to the steep valley walls, Pampaneira, Bubión and Capilleira.

Pampaneira, with its steep narrow and cosy streets is awesome to wander around. It  has a cute village square which is ideal for a drink and a tapa. A visit to the chocolate museum is recommended before heading towards one of the other villages.

The higher altitude Bubión and Capilleira are nice starting points for hikes to the Mulhacén, the Sierra’s highest mountain.
